Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen will travel out of the state from this morning, Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, until the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024.
Maui Mayor Bissen requests $401M from state for Lahaina rebuild, recovery
Mayor Richard Bissen made a plea to the state for $401.75 million over the next three years to help Lahaina rebuild and recover. The request was made before the Senate Ways and Means Committee on Tuesday, on behalf of the people of Maui County.
County of Maui would separately leverage $198.75 million over the next three years, according to a news release announcement.
Breaking: Maui Managing Director, Kekuhaupio “Keku” Akana retiring
Maui Managing Director, Kekuhaupio “Keku” Akana, will retire from the County of Maui effective Dec. 31. He was Mayor Richard Bissen’s first cabinet appointment following the 2022 elections. In deciding to retire, Akana pointed to wanting to spend more time with his ʻohana including seven grandchildren.

Governor-elect Josh Green makes cabinet selections for 14 state departments
Former Maui Managing Director under the Arakawa administration, Keith Regan, is one of 14 individuals named to Governor-elect Josh Green’s cabinet. Regan will sere as Comptroller for the Department of Accounting and General Services. He most recently served as a Business Management Officer with the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs and previously worked as the Chief Administrative Officer for the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority.

Maui’s Keith Regan Named HTA Chief Administrative Officer
Maui’s Keith Regan has been named chief administrative officer at the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority. Regan, who currently serves as the Managing Director under Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa, will begin his new job on Dec. 17, 2018.
