A sizeable earthquake was recorded on the Big Island of Hawaii this afternoon.  The US Geological Survey estimated the time of the quake at 12:45 p.m. and gave the tremor a preliminary magnitude of 5.1.  The quake was centered 9 miles SSE of Volcano.  The National Weather Service identified the specific area as the Hilina […]

SLOPE DEBRIS REMOVAL ON HANA HIGHWAY

The state Department of Transportation begins work today (Tuesday, April 14, 2009) to remove loose debris from a portion of the Hana Highway.  Rock scaling operations will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Motorists can expect traffic stoppages near mile post 21 in Wailuanui while work is in progress.  Roadwork is weather-permitting.
