Health, financial, fraud prevention and other information beneficial to kupuna and entertainment headlined by Uluwehi Guerrero and his Hālau Hula Kauluokalā highlight the 52nd Maui County Senior Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center.

The 52nd Maui County Senior Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center in Kahului.

Ka Lā ‘Ōnohi Mai O Ha‘eha‘e under the direction of Nā Kumu Hula Tracie and Keawe Lopes of Oʻahu took the overall title at the 61st Annual Merrie Monarch Festival, in Hilo Hawaiʻi. The men of Mauiʻs Hālau Kekuaokalā‘au‘ala‘iliahi took home third place awards for kāne kahiko and ‘auana performances, as well as the festival’s third place overall award for men. In the women’s division, Hālau Nā Lei Kaumaka O Uka earned a tie for fifth place in the wahine kahiko division.

Kahiko night at the Merrie Monarch Festival featured hula in the ancient style with 29 groups performing Friday night in the annual competition in Hilo, Hawaiʻi. The festival continues tonight with ʻauana or modern hula, followed by results from the 61st event.

Maui has four hālau competing in the 2024 Merrie Monarch Hula Festival, as the event’s competition kicks off this evening at the Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium in Hilo, Hawaiʻi. Tonight’s competition features 13 women vying for the title of Miss Aloha Hula 2024. Maui entrants include: Shayla Angeline Kamalei Ballesteros and Amedée Kauakohemālamalama Conley-Kapoi.

Queen Kaʻahumanu Center invites the community to join in honoring the legacy of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalanianaʻole at the Prince Kūhiō Maui Hoʻolauleʻa. The event takes place on Friday, March 22 from 4 to 8:30 p.m. at Center Court.

Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea invites the community and guests to immerse themselves in a weekend-long Festivals of Aloha cultural showcase from Oct. 27 to 29, 2023.

Agnes Renee Leihiwahiwaikapolionāmakua Thronas Brown was named Miss Aloha Hula 2023 at the 60th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival on Thursday night at the Edith Kanakaʻole Stadium in Hilo, Hawaiʻi. This is the third year in a row that the hālau from Pūʻahuʻula, Koʻolaupoko, Oʻahu took top honors in the soloist competition. Maui’s own Karlee Pōhaikealoha Rita Chong-Kee of Hālau Kekuaokalāʻauʻalaʻiliahi, under the direction of Nā Kumu Haunani and ʻIliahi Paredes, brought home the 4th place award.

The Festivals of Aloha heads to Wailea with events scheduled from Oct. 28-30, 2022 at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea.

26th Annual Keawalaʻi Congregational Church Lūʻau will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the grounds of the church.

Jaelynn Marie Kalea Nobriga of Hālau Hula Kauluokalā under the direction of Uluwehi Guerrero and Justin Kalani Brache of Hālau Hula Kealiʻi O Nālani under the direction of Kealiʻi Ceballos won the overall wahine and kāne titles respectively in the 26th annual Hula O Nā Keiki competition.

Nā Mele o Hawaiʻi: The Golden Years featuring multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano award winner, kumu hula and recording artist Uluwehi Guerrero and his Hālau Hula Kauluokalā, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater.

Mother’s Day brunch at Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel on May 8 includes entertainment from Uluwehi Guerrero and Hālau Hula Kauluokalā, emceed by KPOA’s Alaka‘i Paleka.

Maui Kumu Hula Uluwehi Guerrero announced that he will be opening “hula lite” classes with Hālau Hula Kauluokalā for adult men and women in February.

The Maui Historical Society hosts its 14th annual fundraiser, “E Pūlama Mau iā Maui,” “Cherish Maui’s History,” scheduled to take place this Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015 at the grounds of the Bailey House Museum.

A total of eight hālau featuring 23 hula dancers will compete in various categories for awards and titles at this years event, and a chance to win prizes valued at over $12,500.

Maui Kumu Hula Uluwehi Guerrero and his Hālau Hula Kauluokalā will perform at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

Mall officials say the event was organized to help ensure a quality education for students. The “I ♥ Lāhainā” event includes entertainment, live and silent auctions, and activities on Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4.

The event comes as news surfaced this week of an 11-year-old Lahaina girl who is in need of a life-saving double kidney transplant. Experts say kidney disease is something that afflicts one in seven Maui residents.
