Australian surfer Jeff Rowley was wiped out attempting to surf at Peahi, better known as the big wave surf spot “Jaws.”
The incident reportedly happened Jan. 18 at around 5 p.m. The wave height was estimated to be 20 feet.
Spokesperson Minnie Vuong told Maui Now that Rowley “copped a good pounding” and is still recovering.
Rowley has successfully surfed “big waves” at Jaws previously, including 50+ foot waves.
