Waterline tie-in work will result in a water shutdown for customers on several streets in Wailuku tonight.

Water officials say contractors will tie in new waterlines on Pio Drive and Imi Place for a construction project.

Work is set to begin at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, and is scheduled for completion the by 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 21.

During the tie-in, DWS officials say customers will be without water on Pio Place, Imi Place, Nana Street, the western portions of Pio Drive and Imi Drive, and Liholiho Street between Nana Street and approximately Lihi Street.

In addition, motorists in the area should drive carefully as local traffic will be affected.

Officials from the Maui Department of Water Supply say customers may want to flush their waterlines for a short time on Thursday morning to ensure that no sediment has accumulated in their waterlines during the project.

Affected customers have reportedly  been notified by the contractor and are advised to store water for the night if needed.

Customers should call the Department of Water Supply 24-hour service line at (270-7633) only if a water problem occurs.
