Mele Ukulele and The Shops at Wailea invite the public to the free Ukulele Mix Plate events on the first, second and fourth Wednesday—Nov. 4, 11 and 25—at the fountain courtyard between 6 and 8 p.m. Ukulele Mix Plate is an interactive ‘ukulele music event in which attendees can learn about the host culture, about the state’s official musical instrument and even learn how to play. A number of complimentary ‘ukulele will be available, compliments of Mele Ukulele, during the free introductory ‘ukulele lesson. Stop by their retail location on the second floor near Tommy Bahama to sign up. A four-hour event parking validation will be offered with proceeds benefit Maui Food Bank. The Made in Maui County Festival is the largest products show in Maui County, featuring over 140 vendors offering a wide variety of made-in-Hawaii products, including food, produce, art, crafts, jewelry, fashion, gifts, collectibles, and more, All in one location—the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Serious shoppers who want a one-day head start can purchase tickets for a special “Shoppers Preview” to be held on Friday, Nov. 6. Tickets are limited, only 500 will be sold to the general public.On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Made in Maui County Festival festivities include demonstrations, a fashion show, food trucks, and prize drawings. The Maui Bird Conservation Center welcomes you to their Annual Open House of 2015. The Open House will be held Saturday, November 7, and Sunday, November 8, at 2375 Olinda Road in Makawao. MBCC is a non-public facility which focuses on captive breeding and reintroduction of 6 critically endangered species of native Hawaiian birds. These birds are rarely seen in the wild, making the Open House an exclusive event for viewing these magnificent birds and learning about their conservation. Read-Only, One-Night-Only Performance of ‘The Crucible’
Wailuku · ʻĪao Theater · Doors open at 6 p.m. · Show starts at 6:30 p.m.
A volunteer group of actors will present a free performance of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible at the Historic ʻĪao Theater in Wailuku as part of the theater’s One-Night-Only (ONO) series. The play will be performed in a read-only voice format. All parts will be read from the script; the stage will be sparsely set. The play is directed by Jennifer Rose. The play is about 19 men and women and two dogs, who were convicted and hanged for witchcraft in a small village in eastern Massachusetts in 1692.Their bodies were buried in shallow graves but their names were not forgotten. In 1953, Miller’s play opened in New York to tell the story of what has become known as the Salem Witch Trials. While The Crucible is about witchcraft and the tragic consequences of a failed love affair, it is also about much more, which is why the play has become Miller’s most performed. 25th Celebration of Hula O Nā Keiki, Nov. 13–15
Kā‘anapali · Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel
The 25th anniversary celebration of “Hula O Nā Keiki”, Maui’s only children’s hula competition, is set to take place November 13-15, 2015 at the Kā‘anapali Beach Hotel in West Maui. The competition commemorates the art of hula, one of Hawai‘i’s richest traditions, and brings the dance to light through the movement of keiki trained in both modern and ancient forms. Participants ranging in age from five to 17 will compete in their respective categories for both solo and pair titles. There’s also an opportunity to win part of the $13,000 in cash and prizes awarded each year.The competition includes a judge’s interview as well as hula performances in both kahiko (ancient) and ‘auana (modern) dance categories. Annual Ice Sculpting Competition, Exhibition

Maui’s popular International Ice Sculpting Exhibition and Competition will return to Lahaina Cannery Mall. Artists from Japan and across Hawai‘i will demonstrate amazing skill and technique as they transform ice into art during the two-day event. The ice chips will fly from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, as visiting artists from Japan demonstrate their skills in a freestyle ice-carving exhibition. Pride and prize money are on the line on Sunday, Nov. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as artists sculpt huge blocks of ice in a 90-minute, head-to-head competition. Maui Chamber Orchestra to Present October Concert

“The Maui Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Robert E. Wills, will present a challenging and exciting concert on Oct. 17 and 18 at ʻĪao Theater in Wailuku. The program will begin with Franz Josef Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto. The concerto will feature Pam Humphrey as the soloist. The first half of the program will close with a reprise from the 2015 season of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto. The concerto will feature three Maui soloists—Rona Londrigan, violin; Jazzlyn Woods, oboe; and Peggy Schecter, flute. Lynn Erickson on trumpet will perform the most well-known part of the concerto. “UB40 is reuniting and they are coming to Maui! Tickets go on sale at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center Box Office Saturday, Oct. 24, scheduled at The MACC’s A&B Amphitheater on Saturday, Jan. 30. UB40 helped define reggae music for a generation, producing multiple Top 10, No. 1, gold and platinum albums; earning multiple Grammy nominations; and creating hits worldwide including Red Red Wine, I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You, I Got You Babe and Here I Am (Come and Take Me). The band has sold more than 70 million units worldwide.
