    Looking Ahead

    High moisture and light winds are expected this week and possibly into next weekend. The potential for localized heavy downpours exists mainly in the afternoons and evenings. Light winds will prevail through the forecast period, favoring a southerly direction most of the week, and a trade wind direction over the weekend.

     

    Today 

    Today we expect mostly sunny skies in the morning with clouds building in the afternoon. Mostly cloudy conditions are expected with showers likely over interior and upslope areas later in the day. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall is possible. Hazy skies are also likely today. Humidity will be on the rise. Variable winds are forecast from 5 to 15 mph. High temperatures from 79° to 84°.

    Tonight

    Variable winds are expected from 5 to 15 mph tonight. Partly to mostly cloudy skies with a chance of showers. Slight chance for thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall possible. Low temperatures from 67° to 72°.

    Meteorologist Malika Dudley
    Malika was born and raised in Hilo. She began her career in news at KGMB9 in 2007. As a part of the Hawaii News Now weather team, Malika was nominated for two Emmy Awards for excellence in weather reporting and won the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Journalism Award for her reporting on Hawaii’s tsunami damage in 2011. In 2019, Malika was recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists Hawaii Chapter in the category of Science Reporting for her Big Island Now news report on what was happening beneath the sea surface at the ocean entry of the Puna lava flow.
