War Memorial Complex Hosts Four Events This Saturday

The public’s assistance is requested to help accommodate parking needs for a total of four community events that taking place at the Maui County War Memorial Sports Complex this Saturday, April 30.

The day kicks off with the Troy Barboza Torch Run at 9 a.m. Participants are asked to meet at War Memorial Stadium Parking Lot near the baseball stadium between 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. At the end of the run, participants will finish within War Memorial Football Stadium, where the Battle of the Badges football game begins.

The football fundraiser is a competition between the Maui Police Department and the Department of Fire and Public Safety; kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

At noon, the 1st Annual Maui County Carnival will begin its third day of games, rides, food and entertainment. The carnival’s kick-off date will be on Thursday, April 28th, at 6 p.m. Both the carnival and the football game are fundraisers for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui.

And at 6 p.m., a candlelight vigil ceremony will be held at War Memorial Gymnasium to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The vigil ends at 8 p.m.

Those attending any of the events are asked to park in the following areas: For those attending the Torch Run, the Battle of the Badges football game and/or the Maui County Carnival, please park at the parking lot fronting the stadium. Overflow carnival parking will also be available in the fenced grass field on the Kaʻahamanu Avenue side of Sakamoto Pool.

Those attending the candlelight vigil for the Vietnam War anniversary are asked to drive through Halia Nakoa Street, which runs through Baldwin High School, and park in the reserved parking area for the vigil, in front of War Memorial Gymnasium.

Motorists are asked to drive carefully while enjoying all of the festivities.
