Big Surf Forces Relocation of Canoe Regatta to Kahului Harbor
The Moki Kalanikau Regatta scheduled for Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Ka Lae Pōhaku in Kīhei will be relocated to Kahului Harbor due to forecasted high surf in South Maui.
Because of a Kamehameha Day event scheduled in the lot adjacent to Hawaiian Canoe Club and Nā Kai ʻEwalu Canoe Club, parking for the regatta will be available in the Kahului Shopping Center between Burger King and Ah Fook’s Supermarket. No parking will be permitted in the lot fronting Ah Fook’s Supermarket.
The Moki Kalanikau Regatta, hosted by Kīhei Canoe Club, is Maui County Hawaiian Canoe Association’s second of seven summer regattas with eight canoe clubs completing. The regatta starts with its first event at 8 a.m. and progresses through 46 races throughout the day.
