Maui Now’s Malika Dudley interviewed the Kanemitsu ohana about their multi-generational local business situated on the island of Molokai. Formerly “T. Kanemitsu Store”, the store was opened in the 1950’s and was originally just 25 by 40 feet. “Take’s Variety Store” then expanded to occupy most of the old building. Today, they are at their new location on Mohala Street which they’ve been occupying since 2007. The store recently celebrated their 66th anniversary.

The Kanemitsu ohana recently held their annual community appreciation dinner and drawing. The event is in its tenth year and has evolved from grandpa and grandma’s stocking giveaway to giving away bigger and better prizes. This year, Aunty Miko Doo won two round-trip tickets to Las Vegas.
