Hospice Maui Hires New Medical Director
Hospice Maui announced the hiring of a new Medical Director to replace their previous director who left earlier this year.
Dr. Chad Farmer, M.D., worked at a large non-profit Florida hospice program for the last 15 years before accepting the position at Hospice Maui. He is Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and “brings both extensive experience with pain and symptom management and a very compassionate bedside manner” according to a Hospice Maui press release.
“The beautiful gift that hospice gives to people is time. Time to spend surrounding by loved ones and friends; time to be cared for by the loving professional staff at Hospice Maui; and time for each individual to be treated with genuine dignity,” Farmer said. “I am deeply humbled that at Hospice Maui I have the time to provide compassionate care at such a precious moment of a person’s life.”
During the past several months since the departure of former Medical Director Dr. Nancy Long, Dr. Don Zacharias has served as Hospice Maui’s Medical Director, providing care and supervising the care provided by other covering physicians. Zacharias is also Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine and has worked with Hospice Maui for 6 years.
Long left after 10 years with Hospice Maui to accept a position as the Medical Director at Kauai Hospice on April 1 of this year.
