Hawaiian Electric nears completion on storm restoration work: 248 without power on Big Island

Hurricane Hone power outage impacts. (8.25.24) PC: Hawaiian Electric.

Hawaiian Electric reports continued progress toward restoring power to the remaining customers who were impacted by Tropical Storm Hone. Crews are working to restore a few remaining customers impacted by the storm on Maui and Oʻahu.

As of 11:30 a.m., crews continued work to restore power to a few customers on Maui who remained without power following the weekend storm.

As of 8 a.m. today, about 248 Hawai‘i Island customers remain without power. Crews are continuing to respond to scattered, isolated outages in the following areas:

  • Pāpaʻikou and Pepeʻekeo
  • Hawaiian Beaches and Hawaiian Shores
  • ʻĀinaloa Subdivision
  • Nānāwale Estates, Leilani Estates, Kalapana and Seaview Estates
  • Mountain View, Glenwood, Royal Hawaiian Estates and Fern Forest
  • Volcano Village, Mauna Loa Estates, Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, Volcano Golf Course Subdivision
  • Waipunahina, Paʻauilo and Kalōpā Mauka and Makai
  • Āhualoa to Pāʻauhau

Customers who do not live in these areas are urged to call the Hawaiʻi Island Trouble Line at 808-969-6666 if they are still without electricity.

Hawaiian Electric is also collaborating with the County of Hawaiʻi to provide critical information and resources at County shelters at Kea‘au Armory at Shipman Park and Pāhoa Neighborhood Facility at William “Billy” Kenoi District Park. Both shelters are pet-friendly and will provide Wi-Fi connectivity. Company representatives will be at the shelters from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
