Two organizers of the Hōʻike at King Kamehameha III Elementary School will speak at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset meeting on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Courtney Sakalosky and Darice Garcia will present photos and stories from the annual cultural celebration, which continued this year despite the devastating loss of the school campus in the Lahaina fires.

Held in honor of King Kamehameha III’s birthday, the Hōʻike is a cornerstone of the school’s cultural education. Teachers and students carried on the tradition even after losing classrooms, costumes and supplies. Each student took part in the celebration.

Sakalosky and Garcia will also recognize the Rotary D5000 Foundation Maui Fires Relief Fund, which awarded a grant to help replace the students’ lost costumes and accessories.
