County Prosecuting Attorney announces indictment of Maui police officer on multiple sexual assault counts

County of Maui Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Martin announced the indictment of a Maui Police Department officer on multiple counts of alleged sexual assault. The charges stem from an encounter between officer, Devin Schoeppner, 49, and a citizen following a single-car crash of the victim’s vehicle.

Schoeppner, 12-year veteran of the department, was indicted by a Maui grand jury last week, and was arrested on a $150,000 warrant on Monday, Aug. 31, 2026. He was charged with four counts of second degree sexual assault and two counts of third degree sexual assault. 

The investigation remains ongoing, and the County Department of the Prosecuting Attorney is asking for the public’s assistance.

“We believe there are individuals who had interactions with Mr. Schoeppner or know someone who did, either recently or in the past. We ask anyone who may have information to please contact us,” Martin said in a news release.

“You may think your information is unimportant, or perhaps already known by law enforcement. Please provide any information you may have so that we may assess it. We understand there may be circumstances that cause people to be hesitant to come forward. However, your information is important and will be handled with discretion and care. Although Mr. Schoeppner has been indicted, we are committed to following up on all information related to him,” Martin said.

According to earlier reports, Schoeppner was placed on administrative leave back in May of 2025 when he was arrested for first degree sexual assault. His department-issued credentials and firearm were removed pending the outcome of the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and police say individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
