Alerts

A High Surf Advisory is posted for east facing shores of Maui and Moloka’i through 6:00 a.m. Friday. Surf is expected to reach 5 to 8 foot faces. Expect strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming difficult and dangerous.

A Small Craft Advisory is posted for all Maui County channels and Māʻalaea Bay through 6:00 p.m. Friday. East winds up to 30 knots are forecasted along with rough seas of 10 to 13 feet. Inexperienced mariners should avoid navigating in these conditions.

Today

Mostly cloudy this morning for windward spots with frequent showers expected. Scattered showers are forecasted for the afternoon. Leeward areas should get partly cloudy skies and scattered showers from time to time. Winds are expected out of the east from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. High temperatures from 80° to 85° near shore and lower high temperatures at higher elevations (see graphic above).

Tonight 

Partly to mostly cloudy in windward and mauka spots with scattered showers overnight. Partly cloudy for leeward areas with isolated showers. Low temperatures from 68° to 73°. East winds from 15 to 20 mph.

Looking Ahead

Fresh to locally strong trade winds are expected to gradually weakening to moderate levels on Saturday. A line of clouds and showers is forecasted to interact with a passing shortwave trough and produce enhanced showers Friday. Drier conditions should prevail this weekend, with a slight increase in showers next week. Trade winds will focus more of the precipitation across windward areas.
