Scuba Shack Boat Makes Emergency Beaching in Wailea

A dive boat belonging to the Scuba Shack was found beached fronting the Grand Wailea Resort in South Maui on Saturday, May 23, 2015, fire officials said.

Fire officials say the 30-foot aluminum boat began taking on water unexpectedly, and the operator decided to perform the emergency beaching by running the vessel onto the shore.

The incident was reported at 7:06 a.m., and a fire crew from Wailea arrived on scene at 7:15 a.m.

Authorities say there appeared to be no damages to the hull, and no detectable release of fuel.

According to department reports, all passengers had been off-loaded and were walking around on the sand when fire crews arrived.

The total passenger count was unavailable, and there were no injuries reported.
