Maui Police Detective Promoted to Rank of Lieutenant

Rick Martinez

The Maui Police Department announced the promotion of Detective Rick Martinez to the rank of Lieutenant on Oct. 1, 2015.

In his new capacity, Martinez has been assigned to the Wailuku Patrol Division as a Watch Commander.

The 29-year police veteran began his career with the department in 1986 as a member of the 34th Recruit Class.

After graduating from the Police Recruit Academy, he worked in the Wailuku Patrol Division as a Police Officer II and was later transferred to the Vice Section as a Narcotics Investigator.

In 1994, Martinez was promoted to the rank of sergeant and was assigned to the Receiving Desk.

In 1995 he was transferred back to the Wailuku Patrol Division and later served two years as a sergeant of the Crimes Reduction Unit.

Martinez was then transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division as a Detective in the Sexual Assault Unit, where he remained for 15 years and became recognized as an expert in the field of Child Sexual Assault Investigations.

He was then transferred into the Internal Affairs Section and became a Nationally Certified Internal Affairs Investigator. Martinez remained with his Internal Affairs assignment until his recent promotio to lieutenant.

He has a son Kyle (Stacy) and three granddaughters Lily, Melia and Lokelani. He resides in Wailuku with his significant other Lichelle Delacruz.
