Second Maui Officer Arrested for Alleged Bribery of Witness
Maui police arrested a second officer on allegations of bribery of a witness.
Police arrested Chase K. Keliipaakaua, 29, of Kīhei on Wednesday, Oct. 21, at around 9 a.m. for suspicion of: bribery of a witness and first degree hindering prosecution.
Keliipaakaua has been a sworn police officer with the Maui Police Department with about six years of service.
He was released pending further investigation.
In addition, an administrative investigation was initiated and he has since been assigned to desk duties.
The arrest comes on the heels of the arrest of fellow officer Anthony Maldonado, 26, on Thursday, Oct. 15 for allegations of bribery of a witness and first degree hindering prosecution. Police say Maldonado was released pending further investigation and placed on administrative leave without pay.
Another individual, Damien K. Kaina Jr., 36, from Wailuku, was also arrested and charged with the same alleged offenses of bribery of a witness and first degree hindering prosecution. He was released after posting $10,000 bail.
