“Small Town, Big Picnic” is Wailuku’s New Third Thursday Event

The very first “Small Town, Big Picnic” event takes place this Thursday, Nov. 19, in Wailuku Town.

Event organizers say the project was created to increase foot traffic and to further the branding process and revitalization of Wailuku Town.  Their hopes are that the event becomes a monthly staple to be held on the third Thursday of each month.

Event organizer Ashley Takitani Leahey said the thought was to “transform a once quiet street into a bustling venue for entrepreneurs to grow their business.”

“Wailuku First Friday serves as a great stimulus for lifting community spirits and the bottom line for local businesses. We’re hoping that this new pau hana event will become a monthly ‘Aloha Thursday’ celebration and will also bring life to the street, eventually enabling surrounding businesses to stay open later and offer specials throughout town,” said Leahey.

The new Small Town, Big Picnic event is sponsored by the County of Maui, Office of Economic Development in partnership with the Wailuku Community Association and Maui United Soccer Club.

The inaugural event will run from 4 to 7 p.m. at the “Beer & Wine Garden” at 59 North Market Street located between American Savings Bank and Ha Wahine.  It is an event for ages 21 and over.

Locally sourced food from Maui Fresh Streatery will be featured along with live music by Kainalu Severson.
