Maui Community Meetings on Imported Cases of Mosquito-Borne Viruses

The Maui County District Health Office and the County of Maui will host two community meetings regarding imported cases of mosquito-borne illness suspected to be the Zika virus.

The meetings are scheduled on:

Thursday, March 31, at Haiku Community Center; and

Tuesday, April 5, at the Velma McWayne Santos (Wailuku) Community Center

Both meetings begin at 6 p.m.

Maui County District Health Officer, Dr. Lorrin Pang said, because Maui now has a new threat of mosquito-borne illness through imported suspect cases, the department is reaching out to the community to provide an update on the current situation and potential impacts.

“We will definitely need everyone’s help in combating the viruses that are being imported to our island from other parts of the world where they are causing serious health problems,” said Dr. Pang.
