Alerts (as of 3:45 p.m.)

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect through 6 a.m. Thursday for all Maui County waters.

A Wind Advisory is posted through 6 a.m. Thursday for the island of Lāna’i, Kaho’olawe and Maui for northeast winds from 25 to 35 mph, gusting to 50 mph.

The NWS reports that winds this strong will cause loose objects to blow around and may make driving difficult.

Downed tree branches have also been reported.  In Wailea, we received a report of a downed tree this afternoon along Wailea Alanui Drive.  A sailboat also broke free from its mooring in West Maui this afternoon.  The Molokaʻi Landfill was also closed early today due to hazardous wind conditions.

Looking Ahead

ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW AD

A cold front will stall over the Big Island on Wednesday. The remnant moisture associated with the stalled front is then expected to lift back northward across the smaller islands through the rest of the week, keeping rather wet conditions in place across windward and mauka areas. Breezy northeast trades are expected to continue through Thursday. The trades should weaken briefly late in the week as another cold front passes by to the north of the state, with rainfall focusing over leeward and interior sections of the islands. The trade flow is forecast to re-strengthen Sunday through early next week with showers focusing once again across windward and mauka spots.

Today

Today we expect partly sunny skies with scattered windward showers and isolated leeward showers. Northeast winds are expected from 15 to 25 mph, gusting to 40 mph. High temperatures from 76° to 81°.
