Medical cannabis researcher Michael Backes will host a “Lunch & Learn” presentation: “Dosing & Methods of Administration” at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College.

The author of Cannabis Pharmacy, Backes will explain how to determine an effective dose of medical cannabis, regardless of the delivery method.

Backes will also discuss the pros and cons of each method of administration and explain why some delivery methods are more suited to specific qualifying conditions. He will also teach how to read and understand a product label under Hawaiʻi’s regulated medical cannabis dispensary program.

“From clay chillum pipes of Goa, India to transdermal patches, there are scores of ways to deliver cannabinoids into the body,” Backes explained in a press release.

“The most appropriate approach to medical use of cannabis is to determine the dosage and delivery that provides the most precise dose, for the desired duration, in the appropriate form, with the fewest side effects. At this Lunch & Learn, I  will teach people how to do that for themselves or for a loved one.”

The talk will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 8, at the Leis Family Class Act Restaurant, on the second floor of the Pāʻina Building at UH Maui College.
