Annual ‘Hula Appears’ Competition Returns to The MACC
Maui’s premier annual hula competition, Kū Mai Ka Hula (“Hula Appears”), will return to the Castle Theater at Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 10, 11 and 12, 2015, for its tenth consecutive year.
Winners Crowned at Miss Maui and Miss Maui Teen Pageant
Cierra Rauch was crowned Miss Maui USA 2016; Jessie Sagadraca, Miss Valley Isle USA ’16; Ma‘ata Halaliku, Miss Makena USA 2016; Joahannalee Ucol, Miss Maui Teen USA 2016; and Lindsey Saludares, Miss Valley Isle Teen USA 2016 at the Third Annual Miss Maui USA and Miss Maui Teen USA pageants on Sunday, Aug. 30, at the Historic ʻĪao Theater in Wailuku.

Maui Fair Seeks Entries for Annual Baby of the Year Contest
Maui Fair is seeking entries for the 16th Baby of the Year Contest. Interested parents can register online by Sept. 18, 2015, for an opportunity to win great prizes, and possibly, the Baby of the Year crown. Contestants born on or between March 26, 2013, and Sept. 26, 2014, are eligible to participate.
Maui Fair Parade Applications Due by Sept. 2, 2 p.m.
Applications are due by Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at 2 p.m. for the Sept. 24 Maui Fair parade. Applications are available for download online and can be dropped off at the fair office located in the parking lot of the War Memorial Gymnasium in Wailuku between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.

KIRK’s Mahina‘ai Night Slated for Saturday, Aug. 29
The Kahoʻolawe Island Reserve Commission invites the public to Mahina‘ai Night on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at its Kīhei boat house property, an eight-acre parcel designated to the KIRC in 2002 as the future site of a Kahoʻolawe learning center.

Te Vaka Returns to Maui on Oct. 28
Opetaia Foa‘i’s South Pacific band Te Vaka will return to Maui for the first time in eight years for one night only, on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at Maui Theatre Lahaina. Tickets go on sale today, Aug. 20, at the Maui Theatre Box Office.
Mālama Wao Akua Exhibition Submission Day is Aug. 24
The Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center and East Maui Watershed Partnership will present Mālama Wao Akua, a fine art exhibition that merges the worlds of art and conservation with works of art that honor Maui Nui’s native plant and animal species.
Wailuku Artist to be Featured in New York Exhibition
Chelsea’s Agora Gallery in New York will feature the original work of Wailuku artist Annika Banko in an exhibition called “Emerging Transformation,” which opens Aug. 25 and runs until Sept. 12, 2015.

The Second Maui Fair Fun Run is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at 7:30 pm, at the War Memorial Football Stadium.
