This month’s free Hawaiian Music Series will be held the Thursday before Halloween on Oct. 24, at 6pm at Lahaina Civic Center Amphitheater featuring local group Launaʻole. 

The 44th annual Hawai‘i International Film Festival (HIFF) presented by Halekulani celebrates returns to the MACC Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20 with six Made in Hawaii Feature Films and four Made in Hawaii Short Films under the theme “Creating New Traditions” highlighting the best in new cinema from Hawai‘i, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and the world while blending the rich cultural heritage of the islands with innovative storytelling techniques and diverse perspectives. 

On Sunday, Oct. 27, Maui Arts & Cultural Center again celebrates the musical tradition of Hawai’i’s famous four-string instrument at the 17th annual Maui ‘Ukulele Festival, a free Maui community music event in the A&B Amphitheater and Yokouchi Pavilion.

This marks the first return of the popular Kīhei event since the COVID-19 pandemic.

A film telling the moving story of the reclaiming of Polynesian heritage will screen at the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College on Monday, Oct. 21 at 3:30 p.m. in the Pilina Events Center.

In celebration of the album and her enduring career, Anuhea will host an exclusive, one-night-only Farm Display and Dinner at the Ocean Vodka Distillery in Kula, Maui.

“Shaka, A Story of Aloha” will premiere at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. The feature-length documentary delves into the origins, meanings, and mysteries of the iconic hand-sign, which this year became the official gesture of Hawai‘i.

Maui will soon get a jazz experience from the Diné (Navajo) people.

Maui Comics is curating an art exhibition that opens 5-9 p.m. Friday at Wailuku Art Space, 53 N. Market St., featuring comics and original art by local creators. The gallery run will last through Nov. 2 daily at 5-9 p.m.

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center is teaming up with Imua Family Services for a Keiki Halloween Festival & Cinema Saturday, Oct. 26 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the MACC’s A&B Amphitheater, Yokouchi Pavilion and Events Lawn. This FREE ‘Mega Monster Mashup’ event at the MACC will feature a variety of activities including dozens of trick or treat stations, an animal encounter area, live music from DJ Boomshot and Marty Dread and two films on the big screen, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and Hotel Transylvania.

Maui Ocean Center will host “Fins & Frights Night” from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26, featuring costume contests, face painting, trick-or-treating throughout the park and a new “Coco” 3D experience inside the “Sphere de los Muertos.”

Maui Public Art Corps will begin a six-week process on Nov. 5 to install a large-scale mural across the temporary campus of King Kamehameha III Elementary School, located at 100 Akahele St. in Lahaina. 

Hawaiʻi Youth Poet Laureate Miya Peterson, along with college instructors, will be conducting a variety of free poetry readings and workshops for students and teachers at Maui Community College in October.

A Halloween-themed thriller filmed at Kīhei Charter School will be featured at the Hawaiʻi International Film Festival in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s McCoy Theater this month.
