Surfing to Become a High School Sport in Hawai’i
State leaders today announced the addition of surfing as a sport in Hawaii’s public schools. The sport will allow for school sanctioned surf competitions as early as the spring of 2013.

A community flu shot clinic will be held on Maui on Saturday for members of the Hawai‘i Medical Service Association (HMSA). The clinic runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Foodland Ka’ahumanu located on Kane Street in Kahului.
EPA Agreement Finalized For Full Disinfection of Lahaina Wastewater Facility
The negotiated order was approved by the county in July. It requires the installation of a non-chlorine disinfection system at the facility by the end of December 2013.
Island Musician Cecilio Rodriguez Arrested on Felony Charges
Cecilio Rodriguez, the island musician who performs as one half of C&K, was arrested in Los Angeles on Tuesday on felony charges. He was being held on $200,000 bail with his initial court appearance set for today in Compton Municipal Court.
First Humpback Whale of Season Sighted off Honaunau
The sighting serves as a reminder of the upcoming whale season, which traditionally runs from November through May, although whales may be encountered in limited numbers during other months of the year.
