In Hawaiʻi, 19 mail delivery personnel were bit by dogs, a 58% increase over the previous year’s total of 12. USPS is providing the public with the do’s and don’ts of responsible dog ownership as part of its annual National Dog Bite Awareness Week.

Hilo Man Dies During Exchange of Gunfire with Police

One officer, a 13-year veteran of the department, reportedly returned fire and struck the suspect several times. Police have since identified the suspect as 34-year-old Ryan Y. Santos of Hilo, and say he died at the scene.
