For the first time since before the pandemic, more than 200 health and human service providers, first responders and early childhood educators gathered in person for Hoʻoikaika Partnership’s 12th Annual Conference, “We Are All in This Together / E Alu Like Kākou: Stories of Strength and Resilience,” on Sept. 25, 2025.

“We are grateful of the generosity Maui County Federal Credit Union and its members who have helped support children suffering from abuse or neglect in their healing process,” said Paul Tonnessen, Executive Director, Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of Maui.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month and the Ho’oikaika Partnership invites the Maui Nui community to join in promoting activities that strengthen ‘ohana, support the healthy development of keiki, and prevent child maltreatment.

Here on Maui, a free Keiki Fest will be held on the Great Lawn of the University of Hawaiʻi College campus from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016.

Maui police say Randi Norton and her son have been located. Police say the child was found to be in good health and is now in the custody of his father. Police thanked the public for their assistance.

A Maui man was arrested and charged with abuse of a family member by strangulation and child abuse/neglect, police said. The charges stem from a domestic abuse incident reported over the weekend.

The discussion was prompted by recent media stories where allegations of child abuse were raised. Jani Sheppard, CEO of Maui Family Support Services, will be the featured guest.

Dozens of community members joined in a procession up Main Street in Wailuku today, as they walked together in a silent vigil held in honor of a Maui boy who died last week in a suspected case of abuse.

The procession will start at 4 p.m. at the Weinberg Building in Wailuku, and proceed up Main Street to the Court House on High Street, where a moment of silence will be observed in Zion’s memory.
