Mākena Golf & Beach Club (Mākena) will host a benefit dinner “Kupu ka niu, kupu ke kanaka” – The niu sprouts, the people grow – on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Mākena’s Nāulu Farm. The event will bring the community together in support of Maui Food Bank’s Da Mobile Market, which expands access to fresh, nutritious food in underserved communities including West Maui, Upcountry, and Hāna. 

Through charitable shipping contributions valued at more than $1.55 million, Matson has donated freight services to transport 156 shipping containers carrying food and essential supplies to Maui since 2022, thereby making it one of Maui Food Bank’s largest and most impactful partners.

Maui Food Bank reports a steady upward trend in food distribution over the past three months as community need continues to grow. The organization distributed 537,996 pounds of food in October, an 18% increase since August, and expects demand to surge by another 35% in the coming weeks due to the approaching holidays and the ongoing federal government shutdown.
