Monday Morning MIL: From Oregon to Hawai‘i, ‘brothers’ cheer each other on in special football weekend
Iapani “Poncho” Laloulu and Fa’anu Ma’o were always close growing up, Laloulu on O’ahu and Ma’o on Maui, but they grew closer as Ma’o’s mother, Failagi Laloulu Ma’o, battled breast cancer that first hit her in 2017 when Fa’anu was 9 years old and Poncho was 13.
Winners announced for Rep. Case’s 2025 Congressional Art Competition
US Rep. Ed Case (Hawai‘i – First District) announced the winners of his 2025 Congressional Art Competition at Bishop Museum, where entries were on public display. Twenty-three art pieces were entered this year from eight schools throughout his district.

The Hawai‘i State Department of Education announced today that, with the support of philanthropists and longtime Hawai’i residents Lynne and Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO of Salesforce, it has distributed $2.5 million to qualifying DonorsChoose projects by Hawai‘i’s public school teachers. Building on this campaign’s success, HIDOE and the Benioffs also announced that another round of support for Hawai‘i’s teachers is planned later in the academic year.
Maui’s Lahainaluna in Division 1 State Football Championship; Ticket & Pay-Per-View Info Available
In the First Hawaiian Bank/HHSAA Football State Championships doubleheader on Dec. 23, #1 Lahainaluna High School will play will #2 ‘Iolani School in the Division I title football game at 3 p.m, followed by #2 Saint Louis and #1 Kahuku at 7 p.m. in the Division I‐Open championship.
