Maui resident Christopher Steven Helmer, 37, was sentenced today to a 10-year prison term for kidnapping, terroristic threatening, and related firearms and drug offenses, with the term ordered to run consecutively to a prison sentence he is already serving for a separate armed carjacking.

According to the FBI and data collected by Everytown Research & Policy, firearms are currently the leading cause of death among children, and handguns represent the main weapon used in assaults against law enforcement officers.

A Maui man was sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison and three years of supervised release, after pleading guilty to possession of stolen firearms, according to the Justice Department officials.
