#Firebreak Road

The state Department of Transportation has announced a speed limit reduction for part of the Haleakalā Highway.  Speed is being reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph in the northbound direction in the vicinity of the North Firebreak Road Intersection near the Hāna Highway, between mile 0.20 and 0.70.  

Fire officials say the fire was reported at around 3:30 p.m. on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2019, off of Firebreak Road. 

In Kahului, an alternating lane closure will be in effect on the Haleakalā Highway in both directions in the vicinity of North Firebreak Road Sept. 11-15, 2017.

Motorists are advised of road work taking place on Haleakalā Highway near Firebreak Road. One lane is open in the area. Motorists can expect delays.

The fire was ruled accidental and was caused by a downed electrical power line. A quarter-acre of grass and fallow sugar cane was blackened near Haleakalā Hwy.

Motorists can expect continued delays on Haleakalā Hwy where a traffic accident involving a flipped vehicle was reported earlier this morning at the Firebreak Rd intersection.

A Kīhei man is in critical condition following a motor vehicle collision on Haleakalā Hwy. Investigation revealed that one of the vehicles was reported stolen.

10/18/10 4:48 p.m. Update:  The Haleakala Highway is now open in both directions.  The Highway was temporarily closed in the mauka bound direction near Firebreak Road because of a traffic accident reported before 3:50 this afternoon.  Motorists can expect the normal slow down as the accident is cleared and traffic resumes its normal flow.  At […]
