The County of Maui Department of Water Supply advises all residents and visitors to conserve water during the prolonged kona storm due to safety concerns related to potential power and electronic system disruptions. Non-essential water use should be limited until conditions improve.

As severe weather from a powerful Kona storm begins blanketing the state, the Hawaiʻi Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Insurance Division is encouraging residents to review their insurance policies and take steps now, that can make the recovery and insurance claims process easier after the storm passes.

Emergency roadway repairs are being conducted over the next few days on South Kīhei Road from Ohukai Road to Maui Bay Villas, following heavy rains earlier this week. The area is temporarily closed to motorists, with the exception of local traffic.

Managers from the Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency are urging the public to exercise caution amid risks statewide of flooding, landslides and gusty winds.

For insurance purposes, take video or photographs of flood damage before cleaning up. Begin cleanup immediately after documenting, do not wait for a flood insurance adjuster or inspector to come to your home.

Habitat for Humanity Maui is offering help to Hurricane and flood victims to repair or rebuild homes that were damaged in the recent West Maui fires and floods.
