#Hawaii furlough

Based on the promise of federal aid, the governor made the decision to delay the implementation of the furloughs, which was set to begin on Jan. 1, 2021. However, he added that because it’s a fluid situation, there is no timeline of when the furloughs will begin.

The Hawaiʻi State Teachers Association Friday filed a prohibited practice complaint with the Hawaiʻi Labor Relations Board, challenging the state’s imposition of furloughs, which affects more than 13,000 HSTA members starting Jan. 4.

Hawaiʻi’s four public worker unions have voiced opposition to Governor David Ige’s furlough plan that calls for two unpaid days off each month for a 9.2% reduction in pay while in effect.

Governor David Ige announced today that state employees will be furloughed two days a month starting Jan. 1 of 2021, to balance the state budget. The state is projecting a $1.4 billion budget shortfall in the general fund for each of the next four years.

Members with Unit 9, representing more than 1,500 registered professional nurses, voted against the new deal.

The states largest labor union is expected to announce ratification voting results tonight on a tentative contract.

The Governor announced an HGEA contract agreement, but at least two county mayors want more information.

The newly announced agreement, if ratified, ends the 2 day per month furloughs in the current contract.
