From 10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27 to 3:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, there will be intermittent holds of traffic of around 10 minutes on the highway in Ukumehame. The traffic holds will allow crews to replace and adjust the barriers on the makai shoulder of the highway.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation is advising highway users that work will begin next week to replace a drain line underneath Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30).

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation is notifying highway users that portions of Nāpilihau Street and Honoapi‘ilani Highway near Nāpili Plaza will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 13 as crews will be installing a new traffic signal at the intersection.

Motorists are advised that the right turn lane on Keawe Street onto Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) at Lahaina Gateway will be closed temporarily on Thursday night, Sept. 4. Also, from 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, to 6 a.m., Friday, Sept. 5, there will be roving lane closures in either direction on Honoapi‘ilani Highway fronting the Fairway Shops in Kāʻanapali.

The southbound lane on Honoapiʻilani Highway between Kuʻikahi Drive and Pilikana Street will be closed from 7 p.m. Thursday, May 1 through 5 a.m., Friday, May 2. Traffic will be alternated through the one open lane.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises highway users to prepare for potential traffic delays at the ‘pali’ tunnel on Honoapi‘ilani Highway for guardrail work.

A brush fire along the Honoapiʻilani Highway in the area of “Cut Mountain” in West Maui burned an estimated one acre before being brought under control and extinguished on Sunday night. The fire was reported at 10:16 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2024. It forced the temporary closure of the highway in both directions due to fire and smoke.

Motorists on Maui are advised of potential traffic delays beginning Monday, Nov. 25, as crews check pavement quality on 13 state highways on the island. The data will allow HDOT to be proactive in repairing roads before they show signs of distress.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises highway users of single lane closures at the intersection of Honoapi‘ilani Highway and Kāʻanapali Parkway, from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, to replace a traffic signal pole.

To maintain reliable service, Hawaiian Electric crews will be conducting work for equipment upgrades using bucket trucks on Honoapi‘ilani Highway between mile markers 23 and 24 near Halelo St. across of the Kā‘anapali Parkway in the West Maui area on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The work involves installation of advanced meter equipment and will impact area traffic during this time. No service interruptions are planned for this work.

The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation is notifying motorists of potential traffic delays as modular homes for wildfire survivors are transported from Kahului to the Ka Laʻi Ola housing site in Lahaina, on Friday night, Oct. 4 and Saturday night, Oct. 5, with an extra day of hauling reserved for Monday night, Oct. 7, if needed. There will be no transport Sunday night.

Hawai‘i Department of Transportation crews will close two southbound lanes and the makai shoulder of Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) between Papalāua Street and Lahainaluna Road from 7 a.m., Monday, Aug. 19 to 6 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20.

Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) crews will be restriping Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) between Kapunakea Street and Keawe Street fronting the Lahaina Cannery Mall in preparation for the reopening of the highway at noon on Thursday, Aug. 1.

Highway users are advised that crews will be striping the five new speed tables on Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) in the vicinity of Maui Tropical Plantation and Kolo Place.

The state Department of Transportation will be conducting road work this week that will result in lane closures at various locations. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice. All projects are weather permitting.

Update: The Ukumehame brush fire was declared 75% contained by nightfall on Tuesday. A Maui Fire Department crew remained on scene throughout the night to monitor the area. Emergency managers say the fire was initially reported as being in Olowalu, but was updated to better reflect the area of Ukumehame, further south.
