As of 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016; the backcountry area of Haleakalā National Park reopened at the Summit. Visitors should expect rainy, wet and possibly windy conditions.

As Hurricane Lester continues on its track, HawaiiUSA Federal Credit Union has decided to close its Kahului and Kīhei Branches on Maui on Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016.

The original proclamation, signed on Aug. 30, authorizes the expenditure of state monies for quick and efficient relief of disaster-related damages, losses and suffering resulting from the storm.

There are no anticipated port closures at this time, however port closures are subject to change depending on the path of the storm.

As Hurricane Lester continues its path northward alongside the Hawaiian Islands, the following Maui County notifications have been made:

Today’s regular Maui County Council meeting will start at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber on the 8th Floor of the County Building as planned, Council Chair Mike White announced.

Due to the uncertainty over the track of approaching Hurricane Lester, all Hawai‘i island, Maui, and O‘ahu State Park camping and lodging areas will be closed to overnight use beginning Friday, Sept. 2 and will remain closed — at minimum through Monday, Sept. 5

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College has announced campus cancellations and early closures in association with the Hurricane Lester weather event.

Young Brothers Preparation for Hurricane Lester and Schedule Changes for the Coming Week.

The Maui County Civil Defense Agency today announced that with the onset of impacts of Hurricane Lester expected Friday night, the public is urged to plan accordingly and to take final precautions.

State courthouses and judiciary offices in Maui County will be closing at 12 p.m. (noon) on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, due to severe weather conditions being projected by the National Weather Service.

Lester has crossed into the Central Pacific and is now being monitored by the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.

Gov. David Ige signed a pre-landfall emergency proclamation on Tuesday, as the state prepares for possible impacts from hurricanes Madeline and Lester. The proclamation authorizes the expenditure of state monies for quick and efficient relief of disaster-related damages, losses and suffering resulting from the storms.

Island Air will waive reservation change fees and differences in fares for customers needing to change their travel plans due to Hurricanes Madeline and Lester.

As Hurricanes Madeline and Lester approach the Hawaiian Islands, Young Brothers will be determining their impact upon company sailings to and from the neighbor islands

Division of State Parks – Polipoli State Park will be closed, but all other Maui State Parks will remain open on Wednesday, and with considerations based on storm assessment for closure on Thursday.

As Maui Electric employees prepare for potential impacts from approaching Hurricanes Madeline and Lester, Maui Electric wants to remind customers that electricity can be dangerous and electrical safety should never be taken for granted, especially during an emergency situation.
