Since the tournament to Maui in 1999, the event and host organizations have donated a total of more than $5.6 million to Hawaiʻi community charities.

Hyundai Motor of America announced Wednesday it will end its sponsorship of the Tournament of Champions at Kapalua’s Plantation Course.

The 2016 Hyundai Tournament of Champions Pro-Am currently has a limited number of pro-am spots available for the upcoming event on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at The Bay Course in Kapalua on Maui.

At least a dozen golfers under the age of 30 are making the cut by winning tournaments and becoming eligible for the 2016 winners-only event, scheduled to take place Jan. 6-10, 2016 at The Plantation Course at the Kapalua Resort.

The six primary beneficiaries of the 2015 event include: the Boy Scouts of America – Maui County Council; the Friends of the Children’s Justice Center; Hale Makua Health Services; the J. Walter Cameron Center; Ka Lima O Maui; and the Lahainaluna High School Foundation.

Four shots behind with four holes to play, Patrick Reed made two birdies and holed out from 80 yards for an eagle Monday, and then closed out his unlikely rally by making an 18-foot birdie putt to beat Jimmy Walker in a playoff at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

With all the conditions golfers have to contend with, keeping it simple at The Plantation Course is proving to be the best strategy for Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama.

The beat down continued Saturday at The Plantation Course. The good news is there is no winner-by-technical knockout. The bad news is Mother Nature is busy dealing with cold fronts on the mainland and has no plan to downgrade the epic conditions contributing to the logjam atop the 2015 Hyundai Tournament of Champions’ leaderboard.
