The state Department of Land and Natural Resources issued an update saying the reopening of ʻĪao Valley State Monument is postponed until further notice.

The closure of the ʻĪao Valley State Monument has been extended to April 15, 2023.

Kepaniwai Park at ʻĪao Valley is closed until further notice for cleaning and maintenance, according to a county notice issued on Wednesday afternoon.

As of 7 a.m. today, ʻĪao Valley State Monument was reopened by the DLNR Division of State Parks. All debris on the road that led to its closure has been cleared

ʻĪao Valley State Park remains closed this morning as crews continue cleanup of downed trees blocking both lanes above Kepaniwai Park.

The state has pushed back the reopening of ʻĪao Valley State monument to early August of 2017 amid ongoing repairs and interim improvements.

The ʻĪao Valley Restoration, Phase 1, project was delayed until later this week due to a mechanical issue. The park is still scheduled to open by summer.

The state hopes to reopen ʻĪao Valley State Monument to modified public access sometime this summer. A $1.8 million stabilization project begins Feb. 13, 2017.

“Kepaniwai Park is closed. ʻĪao Valley State Park is closed. The rest of the valley is a residential area and not a scenic lookout or a place for people to take pictures of property damage so they can post them on social media. Please respect residents’ property and their privacy.”

ʻĪao Valley State Monument on Maui is closed today due to flash flooding concerns. State officials with the Department of Land and Natural Resources issued the advisory this morning saying an update on park reopening will be issued once State Parks staff have been able to assess conditions within the park.
