Maui Arts & Cultural Center has announced the winners of the Ruth Freedman People’s Choice Award and Gene Freedman Artists’ Choice Award for Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2025.

Maui Arts & Cultural Center announces the opening of Schaefer Portrait Challenge from Jan. 14 – March 22, 2025. A signature of the MACC’s Schaefer International Gallery, this marks the eighth edition of this statewide juried exhibition with a selection of 40 portraits from five islands, showcasing the unique diversity of Hawai‘i’s people.

A signature of Maui Arts and Cultural Center, the Schaefer Portrait Challenge, has been held as a triennial since 2003. This year’s challenge will mark the eighth iteration of this statewide juried exhibition, which presents the unique diversity of the people of the Hawaiian Islands through explorations in portraiture.

Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center presents the 2022 Annual Juried Exhibition, on display through Feb. 18, 2022, the exhibition features works by 50 artists from Maui and across the state.
