Driven by a historic $600 million allocation and the 2023 wildfires, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands is making a push to award over 2,600 leases statewide by the end of the year, including over 1,200 on Maui.

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands conducted an orientation Saturday for beneficiaries on the Maui residential waitlist interested in the upcoming award of more than 1,100 residential project leases on the Valley Isle. Maui’s residential waitlist currently has more than 3,900 applicants.

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) presented an ambitious awards schedule before the Hawaiian Homes Commission Monday and announced its plan to issue more than 2,600 leases by the end of 2025.

To date, approximately 95 homes at Kamalani have sold or are under contract, more than 45% of which have closed
