The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational has secured a new sponsor. On Monday, Rip Curl broke the news of a brand new partnership with the competition ahead of the forthcoming event this winter—its 40th year at Waimea Bay, Oʻahu.

The PGA TOUR today announced that Max Novena has been named Executive Director of the Sentry Tournament of Champions and replaces Alex Urban, who has taken a new role as Executive Director of the TOUR Championship and will relocate to Atlanta.

Windy conditions prevail as strong trade winds in the 15-30+ mph range also produce east swell for Maui.

This weekend’s WNW swell didn’t materialize on Maui like it did for the North Shore of Oahu and just in time for day 1 of the Pipeline Masters event on Saturday.

Maui’s Billy Kemper posted the second best losing score in round 3 — a 15.50 — as a result of having to battle 11-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater in Sunday’s action of the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons.

Take a look out at the north shore and you can see there isn’t very much happening in terms of riding waves. Maybe Mother Nature is taking a break from pumping out swell after swell, which made the month of November one to remember.

Most north facing spots lit up as expected with the conditions. However, for non-surfers, the Kona winds usually mean a few more unpleasant things.

Last weekend’s northwest swell topped out at 10 foot during its peak Friday, providing plenty of opportunities for surfers on Maui another chance to ride the big stuff.

Maui natives such as Ian Walsh, Kai Barger, Billy Kemper, 16-year-old Ian Gentil, Hank Gaskell from Hana, Granger Larsen and a few others are all hoping to move on to the later rounds.

There is a large northwest swell set to hit the islands Thursday (11/15) and Friday (11/16). This will ensure that the competitors will have challenging surf conditions for the start of the Triple Crown.
