County of Maui offices, facilities and services will be closed or modified on Monday, Sept. 7, 2026, for the Labor Day holiday.

Hawaiʻi drivers are paying near-record prices at gas pumps heading into the Labor Day weekend, with little relief in sight, according to AAA Hawaiʻi’s Weekend Gas Watch. On Maui, Kahului hit $5.44 (up a full dollar from the same time last year).

All County of Maui Department of Finance Division of Motor Vehicles & Licensing offices will be closed on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026, for staff training.

“With crude oil in the $80 per barrel range, continued uncertainty surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the conflict in the Middle East, drivers could continue to see upward pressure on gas prices headed into the Labor Day holiday travel weekend,” said AAA Hawaiʻi spokesperson Kandace Redd. “Drivers should compare prices, look for discounts, [and] plan ahead… ”

Beginning Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, and continuing through Labor Day Weekend ending on Monday, Sept. 7, the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division will participate in the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign.

Striping work from Aug. 27 to 29 along with work from Sept. 3 to 5 has been postponed. Work will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 2. An update will be provided once the remaining work is scheduled.

Maui police have launched an impaired driving enforcement campaign that will continue through the holiday weekend. The departmentʻs Traffic Division will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols at various locations as part of the effort.

Maui County offices, including the Office of Recovery – West Maui at Lahaina Gateway and the Recovery Permit Center at the County of Maui Service Center in Kahului, will be closed on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, in observance of Labor Day.

Starting today, Sept. 2, and continuing through the Labor Day holiday weekend, the Maui Police Department’s Traffic Division will be out conducting impaired driving enforcement.

The Maui Police Department will step up impaired driving enforcement over the Labor Day holiday–starting Friday, Sept. 3, and continuing through the weekend.  

Governor David Ige has proclaimed Labor Day (Sept. 2) to Sept.6 as Payroll Week in Hawaiʻi, honoring nearly 350 state payroll professionals across all departments.

Motorist can also expect to see patrols, which will include the use of unmarked patrol vehicles.

King Tides are forecast to impact affected shorelines through Monday. The event is expected to be compounded by an elevated south swell.
