Crews are repairing a broken pole and downed lines in the Pi‘iholo, Upcountry area to restore about 230 customers and are also responding to other pocket outages. Around 6:45 a.m. today, crews restored power to about 960 customers in parts of Makawao who were out overnight due to strong winds and heavy rain that brought down a pole and power lines.

Lānaʻi High & Elementary School will reopen Wednesday, May 5, for elementary students and vulnerable secondary students.

Lānaʻi High & Elementary School (LHES) students will continue full distance learning through the end of this week due to a power outage caused by malfunctioning electrical equipment.

Hawaiian Electric crews are en route to a power outages on West Maui and Lānaʻi. Further details are pending release including cause of the outage and expected duration.

About 180 customers in the Mānele area of Lānaʻi experienced a power outage around 7:38 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019.

The Department of Education announced the closure of Lānaʻi High & Elementary School for Monday, Jan. 23, 2017.

The outage occurred overnight, knocking out power to an estimated 1,717 customers at 3:18 a.m. Officials say a generator tripped offline, but an investigation into the generator malfunction remains under investigation.

Power has since been restored to an estimated 1,700 Lānaʻi customers who lost electricity Wednesday morning, Aug. 27, 2014.

“The line that came down was an original copper line that had already been identified for repair prior to the incident on Wednesday,” said MECO officials.

Maui Electric Company reports that power has since been restored to affected customers on the island of Lānaʻi.
