One day after a pair of dramatic victories to reach the Division 1 baseball semifinals, Kamehameha Maui and Baldwin both were eliminated from playing in tonight’s championship game at Maehara Stadium in Wailuku.

No. 2 Baldwin downed No. 5 Pearl City, 5-1, Saturday night to claim the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I State Baseball Championships behind the combined four-hitter of freshman Kaipo Haole and junior Nigel Mayfield before a packed home crowd at Maehara Stadium.

Manufacturing runs proved to be difficult in a pitcher’s duel Wednesday between host Maui High and Pearl City, as the extra-inning battle in the nightcap stayed scoreless for more than 150 minutes of action at the Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I baseball tournament.

The Maui High School baseball team improved to 3-0 in the Maui Interscholastic League Division I standings Wednesday, shutting out Kamehameha Schools Maui in five innings, 11-0.

It was just one win. In fact, it was the season opener for Maui High School, but it took more than four hours and 15 innings to complete.

Na Koa Ikaika Maui, the Valley Isle’s professional baseball team, will host the Ishikawa Million Stars of Japan for an exhibition series, beginning on Tuesday, July 10, at Maehara Stadium.
