One man and two children were rescued by Coast Guard personnel after their boat capsized offshore of Lānaʻi Saturday. A helicopter crew located the capsized 16-foot boat about 7 miles south of Mānele Harbor. One man and two boys, ages 8 and 12, were clinging to the hull, not wearing life jackets.

The Public Utilities Commission granted Expeditions the right to increase its passenger fares in all rate categories earlier this month. In a filed order, the Commission recognized several impacts to operations in granting Expeditions’ request for the rate increase including: the Maui wildfires, Expeditions’ losses and change in operations to Māʻalaea Harbor, a reduction in tourism, a loss of alternative forms of income, issues with the financial viability of the ferry services, and the lingering impacts of the COVID pandemic. It also noted that Expeditions has not increased its fares in over 16 years, despite dramatically increased costs of operation.

Six mariners were rescued offshore of Lānaʻi when their 24-foot recreational vessel became disabled about 1.5 miles off of Mānele Harbor on Wednesday.

The current schedule is for Monday, Wednesday and Friday with two round trips each day, departing from: Lahaina at 6:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.; and Mānele at 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Expeditions, known for its ferry service between Maui and Lānaʻi, launched service aboard its newest vessel today, the Expedition Six.
