The average price of a regular unleaded gas in Kahului was $4.77 per gallon as of Thursday, 5 cents lower than last week, AAA Hawaiʻi reported. The current price is a cent lower than last month and 12 cents lower than a year ago.

Hawaiʻi’s gas prices remained stable as Memorial Day travelers returned home, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch.

As Hawaiʻi prepares for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday and the start of the summer travel season, gas prices in the state have shown no significant changes, according to the AAA Hawaiʻi Weekend Gas Watch.

Hawaiʻi gas prices remained stable for a third straight week. In Kahului own Maui, the average price of $4.85 is the same as last week, one cent lower than last month and 52 cents lower than a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price of $4.90 is the same for two weeks in a row, six cents lower than last month and 32 cents lower than a year ago.

In Kahului, the average price of $4.97 is seven cents lower than last week, 23 cents lower than last month and 45 cents higher than a year ago. Motorists filling up at Costco gas say the cost for a gallon of regular unleaded gas on Saturday was nearly a dollar cheaper at $3.99. That puts the price of a full 12 gallon tank at under $50.

In Kahului, the average price of $5.04 is one cent lower than last week, 17 cents lower than last month and 52 cents higher than a year ago.

“Hawaiʻi has moved from having the sixth most expensive gas in the US to the third most expensive after dramatic gas price drops in West Coast states brought all of them lower than Hawaiʻi’s average price except for Alaska and California,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaiʻi general manager.
