Molokaʻi man suffers critical injuries in ATV accident, flown to Oʻahu for treatment

A 78-year-old Molokaʻi man was transported via medevac to Oʻahu after suffering critical injuries in an ATV accident involving three men in the mountainous terrain above Kaunakakai. The two other men, both 72-year-old Molokaʻi residents, sustained minor injuries.

The Hoʻokākoʻo Board of Directors has appointed Kaʻala Fay Camara as the next principal of Kualapuʻu School on Molokaʻi, effective July 1, 2025.

Two Molokaʻi churches lauded for highway cleanups

The Heart of Aloha Church and Tenrikyo Molokaʻi received the Adopt-A-Highway Nō Ka ʻOi Highway Hui Award for the fourth quarter of 2024 and first quarter of 2025, respectively. Both churches and their volunteers have regularly picked up trash along a two-mile segment of highway for the past eight or more years, helping to prevent roadside rubbish from blowing into the ocean or other sensitive ecosystems.

New Molokaʻi Tow and Scrap program launched this month

The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management has launched a new Tow and Scrap program for Molokaʻi residents to recycle their unwanted qualified vehicles at no cost. The County is partnering with A&S Services LLC and Molokaʻi Metals Facility to facilitate the program.

Molokaʻi Hawaiian language hui supported by $40 million Office of Hawaiian Affairs grant

Molokaʻi brush fire burns 80 acres, damages small shack and abandoned vehicle

A brush fire burned 80 acres on Molokaʻi before it was fully contained at around 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday. The fire was first reported at 10:25 a.m. on Sept. 24, 2024 in the area of Naiwa St., south of the Molokaʻi Airport. Fire officials say one small shack was damaged and an abandoned vehicle burned in the fire. The value of damages has not yet been determined.

Tiny home for kūpuna blessed on Nāʻiwa Homestead

More than 20 years after he moved onto his homestead land on Moloka‘i, Woodrow Poepoe has a home to live in, complete with electric lights and running water. Born and raised on Moloka‘i, “Uncle Blue” got a lease from the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) at Nāʻiwa Homestead in 1986 and immediately moved onto his five rural acres. Now in his seventies, he has made do camping and getting along without access to infrastructure.
