A 25-year-old Kīhei man operating a moped suffered critical injuries in a head-on collision on South Kīhei Road last night.

Police say Richard J. Organiscak, 56, died at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at the Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was being treated for injuries in the Intensive Care Unit.

The moped operator was attempting to make a left hand turn from a business onto Hanakai Street at around 12:30 p.m. when he collided with a 2008 Toyota Tacoma traveling south on the roadway.

A 36-year-old Makawao man was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center after sustaining life-threatening injuries in an early morning moped crash on Olinda Road, police said.

The 51-year-old Wailuku man operating of the moped sustained “critical life-threatening” injuries and was transported to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for further treatment.

When the pick-up truck effected a right turn onto Wahikuli Road in front of the moped, the moped collided with the right front fender of the pick-up truck, police said. Medic 4 arrived on scene at 11:39 a.m. and found the patient unresponsive and with traumatic head injuries.

The moped was traveling south on the roadway when the operator lost control of the moped, left the roadway onto the right shoulder, and collided with a palm tree.
