Mortar found at Kīhei recycling business, recovered by Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team

An unexploded ordnance, which appeared to be a mortar, was discovered by employees at a Kīhei recycling company within their metals collection area Tuesday. The discovery prompted response from the Hawaiʻi Inter-Island Bomb Squad to the business on East Welakahao Road following notification on Wednesday.

Live High Explosive Mortar Found on Maui Wedged in a Tree

Upon further inspection, an Explosive Ordnance Team from the Army found the device to be a live 60 MM High Explosive mortar with the safety pin and primer still intact.

Unexploded Ordnance Found at Wailea Residence

The Maui Police Department’s bomb squad responded to a Wailea home after a piece of unexploded ordnance was found on the property while yard work was being done yesterday.

Unexploded Ordnance Found During Excavation in Wailea

A piece of unexploded ordnance was found while excavation work was being done on a property in Wailea. The incident was reported to police at around 6:34 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021.
