Maui police recovered a suspicious object emitting smoke on the shoreline in Olowalu, Monday afternoon. Patrol officers arrived at around 12:23 p.m. to a report of a fire-related type case near mile 16 of the Honoapiʻilani Highway.

Upon further inspection, an Explosive Ordnance Team from the Army found the device to be a live 60 MM High Explosive mortar with the safety pin and primer still intact.

A piece of unexploded ordnance was found while excavation work was being done on a property in Wailea. The incident was reported to police at around 6:34 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, 2021.

A renter was cleaning out his storage unit at the Kihei Maui Self Storage located at 115 East Lipoa Street in Kihei when he found a small unexploded ordnance in a metal container that was left behind by the previous renter.

Maui police have closed Kauhikoa Road between 2189 Kauhikoa Road and Kaupakalua Road due to suspected unexploded ordnance located in the area.
