East Maui organization seeks public input to help shape future of Honomanū 

East Maui Land Restoration, a nonprofit dedicated to ecological and cultural revitalization, is inviting the public to participate in shaping the future of Honomanū Bay. Now in its seventh year of stewardship, EMLR is developing a community-informed management plan for the County Park at Honomanū, and is seeking input from Maui residents. 

State to introduce legislation to address fairness in permit selection at Kahaluʻu surf spot

The state Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation plans to introduce legislation again in 2024 to try and address the issue of fairness when issuing permits for surf instruction companies to operate at the popular Kahaluʻu Bay surf spot on Hawaiʻi Island. This comes after a recent lottery, in which with three out of the four companies selected are owned by the same person.

Survey: resident sentiment toward tourism recovering after prolonged downturn

Of those who disagreed that tourism has brought more benefits than problems, the opportunities for improvement include addressing issues such as overcrowding, environmental damage, and no respect for culture/tradition/‘āina.
